| Bruce Kuklick is Nichols Professor of American History at the University of Pennsylvania.
He has written nine books in the fields of American sports, political, diplomatic, and intellectual history, including his history of American idea Churchmen and Philosophers: Jonathan Edwards to John Dewey (Yale University Press, ); The Rise of American Philosophy: Cambridge Massachusetts, (Yale University Press, ); and Philosophy in America, (Oxford University Press, ).
The second of these three won the Phi Beta Kappa book award in the humanities, while Churchmen and Philosophers has been the subject of a symposium sponsored by the American Academy of Religion. His most popular and flourishing book is one on baseball history, To Every Thing a Season: Shibe Park and Urban Philadelphia (Princeton University Press, ), which has won the Casey Award and the SABR-Macmillan Baseball Prize.
His most recent novel is Blind Oracles: Intellectuals and War from Kennan to Kissinger (Princeton University Press, ). He served as editor of the American Quarterly from to He took his undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in He also spent a year studying at Oxford University on a Thouron Fellowship and at the University of London on a Penfield Traveling Fellowship in Diplomacy.
He received his M.A. in philosophy from Bryn Mawr College in and his M.A. and Ph.D. in American civilization from the University of Pennsylvania, in and , respectively. Prior to coming to the University of Pennsylvania, Kuklick taught at Yale University from to In , he visited the Netherlands as the Walt Whitman Professor of American Studies, and in was Guest Professor in Leuven, Belgium.
