Angélica María Hartman Ortiz (born September 27, ), also known as "La Novia de México", is a Mexican singer and actress.

She debuted as a child actress in the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema in films such as Pecado (), Una mujer decente () y Mi esposa y la otra (). During the s, she became a teen idol in Mexico thanks to her telenovelas and films, along with her musical career with compositions by Armando Manzanero that made her known as a rock and roll and pop ballad singer.

Her hits involve the Hot Latin Tracks uppermost singles "El hombre de mi vida", "Reina y cenicienta", "Prohibido" and "El taconazo".

Early life

Born in in New Orleans, Louisiana, Angélica María is the daughter of American entrepreneur, Arnold Hartman, and theater producer, Angélica de Jesús Ortiz Sandoval. Following the divorce of her parents at the age of 5, María moved to Mexico City with her mother.

Early career

Her mother's sister, Yolanda Ortiz, introduced minuscule Angélica to the Mexican Cinema when Gregorio Wallerstein, a show producer, was looking for a boy for his next show. Angélica told the producer, "Give me a haircut and I'm that boy".
